Oncology Department of Tongji Hospital,which was founded in1956,is one of the earliest oncology departments at large general teaching hospitals. She evolved to the Cancer Center of TongJi Hospital in 2000.The knowledge of chemotherapy, radiotherapy,comprehensive therapy and palliative treatments of cancers is at leading level in China.The cancer center has mutual cooperations with some famous cancer center in foreign countries and takes in post-graduates for master¡¯s and docter¡¯s degrees .
There are five wards ,oncology out-patient clinics and laboratory for medical treatment ,teaching and research here. The radiation therapy center in our department has a complete set of sophisticated equipments,which includes two linear accelerators with MLC,machine for brachy-therapy, CT simulator and X-ray simulator for radiation therapy localization, equipments for conformal radiation therapy and X-knife treatment,TPS, intensity modulated radiation therapy system,surveillance system for radiation dose,etc. The research direction mainly includes radiation therapy, chemotherapy,molecular target therapy, comprehensive palliative treatment of cancers.We diagnose and treat systemic cancers such as lung cancer,breast cancer,cervical cancer,nasopharyngeal carcinoma,esophageal cancer, gastrointestinal and digestive system cancers,malignant lymphomas,head and neck cancers,urinary and reproductive system malignant tumors,bone cancers and soft tissue sarcoma,brain tumors and central nervous system cancers,skin cancer,melanoma,pediatric cancers,etc.we are developing new technologies and services ,such as high dose rate brachy- therapy,stereotactic radiotherapy,intensity modulated radiation therapy,new chemotherapy drug clinical trials, cancer pain treatment and palliative care for advanced cancer patients,which have obtained dramastic social benefits.
